Our Story & Legacy

Originally founded as Tender Mercies Pet Organization by Janice Thompson, our early days were driven by a deep passion for rescuing abandoned and at-risk animals. The founders poured their hearts into every rescue—providing comprehensive veterinary care, nurturing each animal back to health, and ensuring they found loving, permanent homes. Their tireless work and unwavering commitment helped establish a trusted name in animal rescue and emergency care within the community. Today, while our name has changed, every success story and every life saved is a testament to that enduring spirit.

Ooh la la! Hello there ladies, my name is Phoenix. I am such the ladies man! I am a Pitbul mix and my birthday is 4/30/13. I am heartworm negative and fully vaccinated. I am a special guy who has had a hard life. I was found by my superhero, Charlotte. She’s only 5 years old and if it wasn’t for her, I probably wouldn’t be here today. I was found across the road from Carver Elementary School in Pinetops, NC with a broken back and I was severely burned. I am currently undergoing therapy because I need to rise again and walk! I am a happy boy who gets along with all my friends in the trailer. I need a special family who will be able to spend quality time with me and have patience with my therapy. Can I go home with you?

Doggy Daze, formerly known as Tender Mercies Pet Organization, is a non-profit animal rescue dedicated to saving homeless and at-risk animals. While our name has changed, our heart and mission remain the same and we’re still right here in the same location, working hard to give animals a second chance at life.

🐶 What We Do

Every animal we rescue receives the veterinary care they need, including spaying/neutering, vaccinations, surgeries, and more. Once they’re healthy and ready, we place them for adoption into loving forever homes. While they wait, they’re cared for in our approved foster homes or right here in the Doggy Daze kennels.

We also help pet owners in need offering emergency veterinary assistance to those who are unable to afford urgent care for their beloved pets.
